Bosch dishwasher error codes explained: E15, E24, E25 and more

Bosch dishwashers display an error code when they detect a fault. Some codes point to a simple blockage you can clear in minutes; others need a technician. Code meanings can vary between model generations, so check the user manual for yours as well. Always switch off the power before reaching into the sump or base.

Common codes

E15Water in the base pan. The leak-protection system has triggered. Often caused by over-sudsing or a leak.
E24Drain problem: kinked drain hose, blocked filter, or a blocked waste-disposal or sink connection.
E25Drain pump blocked, often by a piece of glass or a seed under the pump cover.
E22Filters blocked; clean the filter assembly.
E09 / E11Heating faults on many models: heater, flow-through heater or temperature sensor.

E15: water in the base

  1. Turn off the power and water supply.
  2. Carefully tilt the dishwasher (or remove the kick plate on some models) to let water drain from the base so the float resets.
  3. Check that you used dishwasher detergent only — hand dishwashing liquid creates foam that can trigger E15.
  4. If E15 returns, look for the source of the leak; do not keep resetting it.

E24 and E25: draining

  1. Clean the filters at the bottom of the tub.
  2. Remove the small pump cover beneath the filters (often unclipped with a spoon handle) and clear any debris. Mind glass fragments.
  3. Check the drain hose for kinks under the sink.
  4. If the dishwasher drains through a waste disposal, run the disposal and make sure the knock-out plug was removed when it was installed.

When a code needs a professional

Heating faults, repeated E15 leaks and control errors usually involve parts inside the machine. Note the code, the model and serial (E-Nr. and FD) numbers from the label on the door edge; they help any technician order the right part. For specific Bosch models, see our Bosch SMS25EW00GB dishwasher guide.

Questions owners ask

How do I reset a Bosch dishwasher?
On most models, press and hold Start (or Start/Reset) for about three seconds, or switch off at the main switch and the power supply for a few minutes. Resetting clears the cycle but not the underlying fault.
Why does E15 come back after drying out?
E15 means water reached the base pan. If it returns, there is an active leak somewhere inside the dishwasher, often from a seal, hose or the pump, and it needs to be found.
